Nothing to see here…

February 28, 2010

5.30am: I woke up after a bizarre dream where I was a vampire who had just sucked a poodle bone dry. Lay there in the early dark thinking “What the (*#$?? was that all about” before drifting back to sleep.

6.00am: Sirens going off in the still dark. Jarah screaming. I think “Tsunami or bomb.” Later I wonder, “why bomb?”

6.01am: See tsunami warnings. We live on a hill so are fine. Decide to fill up water jugs.

6.15am: Filled up water jugs. Now what. Watch news.

8.30am: Still watching news. First waves expected to hit around 11.05am in Hilo Bay. Nick goes back to bed.

9.55am: Still watching news. Can’t go anywhere. Getting bored.

10.00am: Take nap with Jarah.

11.00am: Wake up thinking “Get to the news, the wave’s a comin’!”

11.05am: No wave.

11.07am: Newscasters seem audibly disappointed. Wonder if the danger has passed.

11.15am: Newscasters speculate if marine animals could be trying to warn off danger.

11.32am: Feel like I might be intercepting a telepathic dolphin message. Nope, must be my imagination.

11.40am: Wait, something is happening. O, it’s a 2 foot wave!

1.oopm: Still no all clear. Please dear god we have a one year old and need to get outta the house.

1.38pm: All clear.

2.00pm: In car driving to beach. Whew.
