Best Laid Plans…

The other day I  read a lovely article about meditating with children. How it was supposed to help foster calm action, support imagination and regulate the volatile two-year old temper. Hmmmm…I’m 38 weeks pregnant and could use a little zen like patience myself these days. Right! The next morning as Jarah rolled out of his bedroom for some early morning play, I showed him to two Japanese style floor pillows, played some dreamy music and invited him to sit down. He plopped on one,  I on another and then carefully demonstrated one of the breathing exercises.

He watched with interest for about 2 seconds. Then exhaled deeply through his nose once. Or perhaps it was more a snort. “Truck?” he asked hopefully.

Not to be defeated, I responded, “More breathing?”

He cocked his head and looked at me with a great deal of patience and not a little determination. “No breathe Mama. No thank you.”

But here is a little proof that he does take time to occasionally slow down and smell the roses (or at least the ginger):
