Just around the corner…

February 9, 2011

My little guy has started adventuring in the wilds of our fenced, tiny, urban backyard. While I cook or laundry or feed his sister he meanders back and forth by the sliding glass doors conjuring trains, monsters, jungles and sometimes all three combined. Lately he has wanted to crouch “just around the corner” and thus, just out of mama’s eyeshot. He feels like this is a giant “a-bent-ture” and this is a kid who loves adventure.

Mama’s car broke down yesterday at the grocery store and the tow truck was called. A bummer? Hell no, here came a truck special ordered just for us. A freaking huge tow truck that lowered a crusty metal ramp, had chains that clamped on to my puny little ford and then dragged it off down the open road. Adventure!

Then we got to wait in the mechanic office to fill in some paperwork. A crusty waiting room full of busty women pics on par with folsom prison? Hell no, here were tons of trucks. And rusty vans. And crappy sedans with way too fancy rims. Tattoos. Adventure!

And so, just past of my field of vision in our backyard my son squats with some blue and brown sidewalk chalk and a couple of plastic dinosaurs (hey, i had to peek) and transforms the neighborhood setting into a deep sea dive to see humpback whales and sea lions (which are spoken of about 349804 times a day in these parts) and then a quick quantum leap over to the triassic period.

But after the adventure is over, he always comes back. And more often than not brings me a flower.

nice! and if you’re not committed to a mechanic yet, consider giving Santa Cruz Tire & Auto Care a try. I love them, and Gina does too – they look for ways to charge you less, which is super cool. (831) 462-6140.
